First contest for the best dramatic text for children and young people successfully realized

ASSITEJ Serbia organized for the first time in 2011 the contest for the best original dramatic text in Serbian language for children and young people, which in terms of great interest, response of numerous playwrights and submitted plays (57 play titles) exceeded all expectations.

After several realized programmes that were carried out in the past three years within the Project of Promotion and Affirmation of Serbian Creative Drama for Children and the Young, ASSITEJ Serbia, in cooperation with Little Theatre „Dusko Radovic“ from Belgrade, Sterijino pozorje from Novi Sad and under the auspices of Serbian Ministry of Culture, has established the Award for the best original dramatic text for children and young people with the aim of supporting new generations of playwrights, and enhancing further development of Serbian drama literature for theatre, young audiences.

Award-winning author and the play will be publically announced 20th March 2012, and the winner will be given the award in the presence of media, within the programme honouring the World Day of Theatre for Children and Young People organized by ASSITEJ Serbia and Little Theatre „Dusko Radovic“. The award consists of a sum of money, translation into English, placing the text on ASSITEJ Serbia website and the website of International network Write local, play global, as well as of professional production of the play by Little Theatre „Dusko Radovic“ and its performance in the season 2012/13. The winning play, as well as three other texts from the closest election will be presented by public theatrical reading, which will serve as jury’s recommendation and support on their way to professional production and performing. The event will be preceded by a press conference. The contest is designed as biennial so opening of the next edition and submission of works are expected to take place in October 2013.
